Wilderness Genealogy Project

The Wilderness Genealogy Project exists as a Facebook group with over 2,000 members.  All are people who have worked in wilderness therapy programs in some capacity. If you are a member of the group but haven’t participated, please add your stats.  If you have worked in wilderness therapy and would like to join the group please:

1. Go to Facebook

2. Search “Wilderness Genealogy Project”

3. Request to join (once you’re in, you may add others.)

4. Use the search function to find your program(s)

5. Post the years that you worked (nothing else)

6. Find your friends and take the conversation outside.  Lots of people have reconnected because of this. Have fun!

Continuum Coaching

Since 2004, I’ve been helping wilderness program graduates make successful transitions home.  My approach differs a bit from others in that I focus primarily on the student.  In my view, effective coaching for the young person is rarely considered a priority in transition models.  Young people have to be trained to succeed in their new environment – which is often the home environment they came from.  Wilderness experience can be effective because it is so different from life at home, and that difference is one of its greatest strengths.  It is also one of wilderness therapy’s greatest weaknesses. This weakness, however, makes the transition home an opportunity for significant growth and maturation.

My coaching model works best with young men aged 16 to 24 who deal with anxiety, overwhelm, and aggression. I help young men learn to focus their attention, keep moving forward, and work on developing a relaxed sense of alertness.

I am not currently taking new clients and won’t be until early summer.  If you are looking for transition support, I strongly recommend that you speak with Ruben of The Road Home or to Hilary or Jen of Solutions Parenting Support.
